NJCTS Anxiety Webinar Series continues on August 17

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 9, 2011 -- As kids, parents and educators across the country are gearing up for the new school year it’s important to remember that students with noticeable difference in behavior from their peers are at risk for anxiety and lower social/emotional functioning. In this talk, Dr. Shawn Ewbank will help prepare parents, teachers and clinicians to create accepting environments for children who are at risk of stigma. Also, Dr. Ewbank will explore how adults can help children to accept and embrace their differences by encouraging open communication within their home, school and other settings.

Shawn Ewbank, Psy.D. is a therapist with over nine years of experience working in behavioral health settings. His areas of expertise include the assessment and treatment of tic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorders, behavioral difficulties (including episodes of rage) and depressive disorders.

The New Jersey Center for Tourette Syndrome presents online seminars for parents, educators and professionals on topics of interest to the Tourette Syndrome community at no-cost to participants. TS is a neurological disorder in which as many as 1 in 100 people show symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many people with Tourette Syndrome experience co-occurring neurobehavioral disorders including attention deficit disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, depression and learning disabilities. In 2008, NJCTS launched the Wednesday Webinar series which draws an audience from 48 states and eleven countries. This summer, NJCTS debuted a special Anxiety Series to deliver strategies for issues of concern for families living with this common mental health disorder.

Professional development credits will be offered upon verifying attendance of the webinar and completion of the exit survey. They will be distributed, by mail, the week after the webinar.
