The summer is almost coming to a close and it’s time for the schools to reopen and for the students to get back to school. You know what means don’t you? Back to school means making sure that the school is properly cleaned, and the best way to ensure that a school is properly cleaned effectively is to hire professional janitors to clean the school.
Having a clean school is important for a variety of reasons. People are superficial and often judge things by their outward appearance (it’s why lawyers, doctors and teachers make sure to dress with authority or wear nice button-down suits and a tie). A dirty and messy looking building attracts fewer people than a building that looks clean and neat. The way a building appears reflects how people respond to it (or maybe that’s just my superficial lens talking). Students especially act based on how a room looks. Students who enter a school expect the teachers to command authority. If a room looks disorderly, then the students will act the same. A dirty room commands less authority than a room which is clean and organized. If you want to improve the performance of both the teachers and the students, the best way to do this is making sure that the school is properly cleaned.
According to the study, Cleanliness and Learning in Higher Education:
"The findings showed that 88 percent of students [out of the 1,481 students in the study] reported that the lack of cleanliness becomes a distraction at APPA Level 3 (casual inattention) and Level 4 (moderate dinginess). Eighty-four percent reported that they desire APPA Level 1 (orderly spotlessness) and a Level 2 (ordinary tidiness) of cleanliness to create a good learning environment. Cleanliness ranked as the fourth most important building element to impact their personal learning. Students perceive that there is a relationship between levels of cleanliness and their ability to learn, and students do link cleanliness with improved learning achievement. Seventy-eight percent reported that cleanliness has an impact on their health. Students provided 892 comments of how cleanliness affects their health and 681 comments on how to improve campus cleanliness. Students reported that lack of cleanliness affects allergies, spreads germs, increases bug and rodent infestations, and promotes higher stress levels." Another study by Smedje and Norback shows that airborne bacteria, mold, and asthma (caused by the germs in the schools) leads to more student absences due to getting sick because the room isn't properly cleaned.
M. Schneider's study mentions that 26% of Chicago public school teachers and more that 30% of teachers in Washington, D.C. said that asthma and other respiratory problems were causes by germs, dirt and bacteria in the schools due to a lack of proper cleaning.
Mark Schneider mentions in the article, Do School Facilities Affect Academic Outcomes?, that “Wargocki et al. found that venti- lation levels in offices affected performance in logical reasoning, typing, and arithmetic...The researchers also found that higher carbon dioxide levels increased the incidence of headaches, which appeared "to affect human performance during office work by reducing the inclination to exert effort (Wargocki et al. 1999, 136)." (http://www.ncef.org/pubs/outcomes.pdf).
What all these studies show is how important it is to keep not just any place clean, but especially an area of work. A lack of proper cleaning creates asthma, sickness, as well as trouble concentrating.
The studies mention how important it is to make sure that a school is properly cleaned since having a clean school not only creates a more aesthetically pleasing environment but also a healthier and more productive work environment.
As I mentioned in the article, Cleaner Schools, Better Education, teachers don’t have time to clean their classrooms. Teachers feel that having to spend time making sure a classroom is cleaned takes away from their time having to teach. Therefore, it is best to hire professional cleaners to clean the school. It is best to hire professional cleaners for two reasons. One is so teachers and students can focus on their classroom instead of having to spend time cleaning. Another reason is that professional cleaners are properly trained and have more experience cleaning, so the best way to ensure that the school is cleaned as best as possible is to hire people whose job it is to make sure that a room (and building) is cleaned as best as possible and that the bacteria, germs, and mold are removed.
School is starting soon, so why not begin school on the right foot by having the school be properly cleaned and organized.
