After having a lease pulled days before the 4th annual fashion event was scheduled to begin, Butterfly Productions found a home for its event Baltimore Fashion Week within the Northeast sector of the city at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center located at 3800 North Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21218.
During the week of August 8, a story ran in the Baltimore Sun detailing this episode, sending CEO and Executive Producer Sharan Nixon into a whirlwind frenzy of frantic emails and phone calls wondering if Baltimore Fashion Week would be cancelled.
"I was devastated to have to release the structure from the production phases of this event. There was nothing I could do without the proper space or foundation to place the structure," Nixon stated. "In my eyes, my team and I have worked too hard to just end it all because a foundation to hold the structure was ever so quietly pulled from the event. This event will start in a matter of days and it will go as scheduled AND it will be just as fabulous--if not more--than our past events."
Through it all, Nixon maintained a level head and began searching for a venue for the event, looking in Baltimore County and several venues in Baltimore City. On Friday afternoon, in the midst of searching online and making phone calls, she stumbled across a beautiful space in the Homewood community near Johns Hopkins University after a recommendation from Julie Brown-Edwards of the Tremont Grand Hotel. After making contact with the office, Nixon and members of her team went to visit the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. Both Nixon and her team were extremely impressed and excited about the location.
"The Scottish Rite Masonic Center is exactly what we need to create the ambiance envisioned for this year's event," Nixon stated. "Although we will not have the structure [tent] as planned, we are working hard with several companies to ensure that the venue will still provide the same type of effect both pictorially and visually for our designers, sponsors, guests, and models."
Baltimore Fashion Week will run Thursday, August 18, 2011 through Sunday, August 21, 2011. Each runway event will begin at 7:44 p.m. “I chose to start the event at 7:44 p.m. to represent the 4th year with this event. Here after each event moving forward under the name of Baltimore Fashion Week will begin that numbered minute. For example for next year with it being our 5th year events will start ending in the 5th minute. It was an idea offered to me from a dear friend and I took it and ran with it. Thanks mystery friend,” stated Nixon.
Tickets will be available on the website each event day until 3:00 p.m. August 18-21, 2011. To purchase tickets at the door, only credit card payments will be accepted.
