“Barefoot Sunday” is a movement created by Samaritan’s Feet that has worldwide appeal.

(Charlotte, NC) –Marhc 18, 2010 – Samaritan’s Feet announced today a national launch of “Barefoot Sunday” movement to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The program will take place on Easter Sunday, April 4th, which is also the 42nd anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination. Pastors will be encouraged to preach their Easter Services in their bare feet in remembrance of the 300 million children who wake up every day without shoes.

Bishop Paul S. Morton, Bishop James Dixon, Dr. Stephen J. Thurston, Bishop J. Drew Sheard, and Bishop Gregory Ingram are asking all of their pastors from their respective denominations to join them in their barefoot efforts. They will be joined by 5,000 other Pastors from different denominations across the country to bring awareness to the plight of these children. The goal is to put 1,000,000 pairs of shoes on the feet of children through Samaritan’s Feet. The Pastors will ask their congregation to make a $10.00 donation, which buys, processes, sorts, warehouses, ships, and distributes a pair of shoes to a child in need.

“I am so honored to serve with these great leaders and inter-denominational Bishops from across the country and around the world to help Samaritan’s Feet reach millions of children,” said Manny Ohonme, President and Founder of Samaritan’s Feet. “These pastors are making a choice to preach barefoot. The children we serve don’t have a choice to be barefoot. They live with this every day. By preaching in their bare feet, it makes a statement to their congregation that they are not above these hurting families. We expect to reach more children through their efforts. Impoverished children will be delivered hope from such a simple act of compassion and courage.”

“When our Savior rose from the grave, He was barefoot,” said Bishop Paul S. Morton. “I am no better than anyone else and that’s why I am so proud to be a part of this endeavor. What an honor to join my colleagues in a collective effort to reach millions for Christ on Easter Sunday.”

“I met Manny and his team and I knew right away that we had to get involved,” said Bishop James Dixon, who’s congregation distributed 5,000 pairs of shoes in Houston, TX in December. “I want to honor my Savior by demonstrating compassion and humility. I am so honored to be a part of this endeavor and I am humbled by the list of Pastors that are joining the movemen
