The FTC alleged the website violated federal law by selling contact lenses without obtaining or verifying prescriptions.

According to the Federal trade Commission all contact lenses, even those that are cosmetic, require a prescription. Businesses that sell cosmetic lenses without requiring a prescription are violating the law. Sellers are required to confirm that customers possess a valid prescription for all contact lenses, and verify it with the prescribing doctor.

All contact lenses, cosmetic and vision correcting, should be fitted and used under the supervision of an a eye care professional, who will also provide instruction on the proper care and use of the lenses. Cosmetic lenses are a medical device and improper use can result in infections, corneal ulcers, corneal abrasions, and allergic problems.
