Almost 90% of the park was affected by the Bastrop County Complex Fire
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) January 3, 2012 --
Bastrop, Texas (PRESS RELEASE) December 2, 2011 -- After a devastating fire raged through Central Texas this past September, the Bastrop State Park reopened to the public on Friday, December 2 of 2011. Bastrop is one of the most popular state parks for camping in Texas, located in the middle of a triangle of the largest cities in the state, including the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston.
Almost 90% of the park was affected by the Bastrop County Complex Fire, which started on September 4, 2011, when two wildfires merged into one massive inferno during a very busy Labor Day Weekend, leaving a 50-square mile swath of destruction in its wake. Many parts of the heavily forested state park were destroyed completely. According to state parks officials, it will take decades for new forest to replace what was burned.
The staff at Bastrop State Park has been working tirelessly to get this protected area back to full operation. Many travelers interested in visiting RV parks Texas style will appreciate the full hookups at Piney Hill being reopened. The Deer Run Campgrounds are also open again, as are 70% of trails inside of Park Road 1A, the day use areas and the Bastrop State Park 18-hole golf course. Many other trail and use areas will come online as crews complete their work. The Allstays camp and RV app will provide you with the latest state parks and campgrounds updates as they become available.
The Bastrop State Park rangers appreciate the public's interest. They encourage families to get out and show their support by visiting and enjoying the many scenic, camping and recreational areas of the park. Let Allstays camp and RV links assist you in planning your next trip to all of the Texas state parks, and guide you to exploring the many wonders of the newly reopened areas of Bastrop County.
