Frankenmuth, MI – August 11, 2011 – The Bavarian Inn Restaurant invites diners to celebrate tasty home-grown products from across the state at its “Purely Michigan Dinner” August 26, 2011, 6:30 p.m. Suppliers from more than a dozen Michigan cities and waterways are contributing to this festival of foods including farms, fisheries, wineries and breweries.
Bavarian Inn created this special event to highlight the excellence of the state’s premier food and beverage artisans from cities around the state, including Traverse City, Posen, Shelby Township and Montrose. Bavarian Inn uses more “Pure Michigan” products than any one place in the country, including the items it manufactures and sells in its gift shops and online.
“We’ve created a menu second to none,” says Bill Zehnder, president of Bavarian Inn Restaurant. “You needn’t travel to Paris or New York for an extraordinary culinary experience. Our chefs have created delicious food and beverage pairings that will delight even the most sophisticated palate. And the best part is we’re showcasing all Michigan products.”
He continued: “People ask all the time what they can do to help the state’s bottom line. The answer is easy: Buy Michigan. Everything produced in our state is on par or superior to what you’ll find around the world. Why purchase a peach from Georgia or a steak from Australia that spends half its life on an airplane or railcar? Buying local is great for the environment, great for the economy and great for Michigan families.”
With seven separate courses, the Purely Michigan Dinner menu offers something for everyone. Diners will feast on Peach and Prosciutto Pizza with Smoky Blue Cheese Asiago, Grilled Great Lakes Whitefish Tacos with Chili Lime Slaw, Curried Squash Soup, Basil Muskmelon Sorbet, Chargrilled Chimichurri Ribeye and for dessert, Blueberry Pie with Blueberry Waffle Cone Ice Cream. Reservations are required for the evening and can be made at 1-800-228-2742. The price is $50 per person which includes dinner, tax, tip and featured beer and wines.
In addition to delicious food and drinks, guests will delight in stories from Jim Dohrmann representing the Fred Weiss Family Farm, which supplies Bavarian Inn with its blue Hubbard squash used in the restaurant’s curried squash soup. Also addressing diners are Joanmarie Weiss from Weiss Centennial Farm and Bavarian Inn’s Chef Phil.
Amy Grossi, general manager of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, encourages people to educate themselves and seek out products that are locally produced. “Consumers can directly and positively grow our state’s economy by purchasing Michigan made and Michigan grown products,” she says. “It keeps the state’s residents working and spending, and our businesses thriving and hiring. It makes good sense all around.”
Agriculture represents the second largest industry in the state, employing 1 million Michigan residents and adding roughly $60 billion to the state’s economy. According to economists, by spending just $10 of their weekly food budget on Michigan-made products, households would put $36 million per week into the state’s economy.
