RE: Be Cool; Do Good Art Exhibition at OCH Art Gallery Features Repurposed Goods
New Orleans, LA. – One man's trash is another man's treasure. This axiom will be on display beginning Friday, October 8 with a special reception on Wednesday October 13 from 6-9pm at the OCH Art Gallery, located in the Zeitgeist Theater at 1618 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. in Central City. The exhibition is entitled “Be Cool; Do Good. Piece by Peace” and showcases how discarded materials are turned into functional works of art by REpurposiongNOLA Founder and Gatherer of the Green Traci Claussen and her design team. The exhibit will be in display at OCH Gallery through November 8th.
The special reception on October 13 is free to attend and open to the public. Guests will have the opportunity to meet Claussen and enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Jack & Jake’s and lively libations compliments of Bayou Brew.
REpurposingNOLA Piece by Peace will have nine hand-crated items from the collection on display, accompanied by samples of the discarded materials from which each unique piece was created. “This exhibit is a perfect compliment to the revitalization occurring in this neighborhood. Just as the pieces in the gallery find a new life, so does Central City,” says Lee Stafford, owner of OCH gallery.
Narratives from waste to reuse will allow the participant to see how the company takes a discarded piece of fabric and breathes new life into it. Four sections will each tell the tale of one specific type of material, including burlap, vintage curtains, phifer, and 2010 Super Bowl banners.
Claussen hopes participants become inspired by acknowledging how much waste they individually generate, as well as the carbon footprint they are leaving on the planet and make a commitment to “MacGyver” a solution or simple gesture to help reduce the amount of materials discarded without second thought.
