Beautiful Woman Inside and Out
Welcome visit Our WebSite:
http://www.beautifulwomaninsideandout.com February 21, 2011 Bowie, MD— An innovative program will launch on March 19, 2010 that combines concepts of health/wellness with fashion, beauty and cosmetics in an effort to in raise awareness, dispel myths and give women the tools to enhance both their physical health and appearance. “The "Beautiful Woman Inside and Out" conference is designed is to educate, empower and equip women to live their BEST lives,” said Dr. Sharon Allison-Ottey, nationally recognized speaker, author, health advocate and executive director of The COSHAR Foundation. “Our objective is to address the “whole” woman and provide the necessary information in a culturally relevant manner that allows women to make informed choices about their health/wellness with a focus on both their inner (health/wellness) and outer beauty (physical attributes). We want to do this in a way that celebrates women, essentially a “gala” of health/wellness and beauty for women.”
We are well aware of the health disparities that plague all women, and particularly women of color. Issues such as death rates from heart disease, increased rates of obesity and diabetes are in the news. However, there are other concerns such as eczema, acne, hyperpigmentation, hair thinning, obesity interventions, anti aging treatments and other interventions that raise questions on safety and efficacy. There are horror stories of women risking their lives with questionable medic al procedures in search of the “fountain of youth.”
To ignore the innate desire of women to feel and LOOK their best is not beneficial. The COSHAR Foundation believes that we must address the woman’s issues from a holistic standpoint and not negate the interest that she has in fashion/beauty but rather use it as a motivator to better health/wellness on the “inside and out”. How do we know that women are “motivated” by the health/beauty industry? It is estimated that AA women spend $80 billion a year on cosmetics and fashion. Further, AA women spend $7.5 billion annually on beauty products, which is 80 percent more than the general market. It is believed that with the attainment of increased education, improved jobs and thus salary, that this group has more disposable income which is directed to the beauty/cosmetic/fashion industry. However, this is not just limited to the makeup counter; Americans spent more than $13 billion on cosmetic surgery and non-surgical procedures equaling over 11.7 million surgeries. Traditional racial and ethnic minorities accounted for 20 percent of all cosmetic procedures in 2008.
Understanding the complexities of women, the external and internal motivators; the COSHAR Foundation and its partners have embarked on this truly unique initiative that brings all factions together in a way that is not superficial but rather focused on today’s woman. The concept has gotten excellent feedback from some of the nation’s most respected experts. "There can be no doubt that women are driven by perceived beauty and the maintenance of that beauty. The fallacy that African American women are somehow less motivated by external beauty is in error and not what I have seen in more than 30 years in practice. The concept of merging outer beauty with inner beauty, i.e. health/wellness, is one that will resound with AA women around the country. The physician, as well as healthcare community at large, must provide and support disseminating and access to the best information and tools backed by scientific data to address a woman’s quest for being her best self. This is particularly true as it relates to the real struggles with obesity and its devastating effects on AA women,” says Leonard Weather Jr, MD President of the National Medical Association.
“The Beautiful Woman Inside and Out” initiative will launch in Prince George’s County, Maryland but welcomes women from the entire Metro area. This day long, high energy event is filled with leading experts including dermatologists, primary care physicians, plastic surgeons, weight loss/bariatric surgeons, fashion experts, aestheticians, celebrity makeup artists, fitness and nutrition experts, mental health specialists and celebrity hair stylists. All of these experts will share the same platform and women will NEVER be the same! The event will be filled with luxurious door prizes and raffle items, breakfast and lunch, entertainment and lots of “surprises.” “I believe that women should be celebrated and why not introduce a celebratory tone into women that are committed to living their best lives” says Dr. Sharon Allison-Ottey. We will approach "beauty" devoid of the typical stereotypes and want to assure that women are healthy; we will dispel myths, and give useful/practical advice from all of the experts. We believe that women should want to be their very best on the inside and out! This groundbreaking conference addresses the woman in a way that she can relate to and embrace. The conference is open to sponsors, vendors and authors; for more information contact the foundation. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to fight breast cancer and domestic violence. The March 19, 2011 event is the launch of the national program which will be coming to Atlanta, Los Angeles, Charlotte and Chicago. Visit the website at www.beautifulwomaninsideandout.com to register (pre registration is required) and to nominate a woman (self nominations allowed) for the “Head to Toe” makeover.
