2ND ANNUAL EVENT HONORING SURVIVORS & BENEFITTING AVON FOUNDATION “The Mystic Makeover Fashion Show for Breast Cancer Awareness” SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3RD, 2-6PM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Suffern, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 22, 2010 --

SUFFERN, NY, September 20, 2010: Once again Suffern Chamber of Commerce member, Mystic Images, is bringing together fellow merchants and partnering with Rockland County’s Cancer Institute to present ‘The Mystic Makeover Fashion Show for Breast Cancer Awareness’. Building on the success of the show in 2009, The Village of Suffern, the entire Suffern Chamber of Commerce, and The Avon Foundation, have joined in supporting this outreach by moving the fashion show to the Suffern Community Center (41 Washington Avenue, Suffern, NY). Sunday, October 3rd from 2-6PM, all are welcome to join in an afternoon of style, wellness, food, fun, and dancing. Ticket holders will also enjoy live music by Grammy award winner Wayne Cobham and the AndJam Band.

The fashion show serves to honor survivors and bring valuable health information to the community. What is more, the grace and beauty of our local community is showcased by models who themselves have overcome breast cancer. It is a day when friends and family celebrate them, with fashion makeovers and an experience that they can cherish following a formative, personal battle.

Mystic Images’ owner, Gina Bertolino, along with Anne Kilduff of High Style, Lucy Kotsidis of Victoria’s Bridal, Alice DiSanto of My Promotion Team, and Chris & Sue Tobin of Crumbs Gourmet Bakery started this event in 2009 as a way to showcase breast cancer screening services offered by the Rockland County Cancer Institute. It was simply a feature within Suffern’s autumn street fair. Attendees and participants were moved to open their hearts and wallets, raising over $1,000 for The Avon Foundation, which supports breast cancer research. Says spokesperson, Alice DiSanto, “Together, we satisfied the goals of honoring breast cancer survivors, showcasing affordable, life-saving health services, and underscoring small businesses that are community minded.”

Chamber businesses (not yet mentioned), giving of their time and talents in 2010, include restaurants (Marcello’s, Café Dolce, da Nina, Ole Ole, , Pasquales), Paris Fashion, Provident Bank, Universal Lacrosse, Train With Rich, Werfel Chiropractic Center, and the Sonoma Group. The show also has the support of Rockland based Emiliani beauty supply and Kokopelli accessories.

“The Mystic Makeover Fashion Show for Breast Cancer Awareness” kicks off our nation’s month-long October campaign to bring attention to a disease effecting 200,000 women annually. Of that, nearly 14,000 cases are from New York.

For over two decades, Gina Bertolino and her team of hairstylists, makeup artists, and manicurists have cared for clients in the Lower Hudson Valley and Bergen County (NJ). Adds Gina Bertolino, “It seems that every day in our shop we hear of a family effected by cancer. We know that some women who attended our event in 2009 were diagnosed this year, and that the connection they felt within Suffern, made a difference in their ability to fight back. We are blessed to have the support of the Village of Suffern, the entire Suffern Chamber of Commerce and now Avon because we will positively be able to touch more lives with compassion and kindness.”

Suffern’s ‘think pink’ message will include many ways that the public can contribute. Tickets can be purchased by cash (or check made payable to “The Avon Foundation”) at Mystic Images Beauty Salon (845-357-8890), Licata Insurance (845-368-2700) or at the Suffern Chamber of Commerce “Antique Car Show” within “Suffern Day” on Saturday, September 25th. Cost is $15/adult and $5/child. If available, tickets will also be sold beginning at 1PM on October 3rd. Pink ribbons are on sale now at Mystic Images and will be available throughout October. There will also be gift raffles on October 3rd from sponsoring Chamber businesses. Another awesome raffle contributor is ArtsRock (Rockland County cultural nonprofit). ArtsRock will raffle tickets to two upcoming Suffern shows. They are comedian “Lewis Black in Conversation” (October 11th) at Rockland Community College and “An Evening With Bernie Williams” (October 23rd) at The Lafayette Theater.

All proceeds go to support The Avon Foundation. Financially, organizers hope to raise $5,000.
