Superstar was launched in 2009 and is the collaborative effort of the park's group ticket sales coordinator, Sherry Clouse and a local disc jockey, David Gary of WHSX radio. Contestants sing in front of a panel of judges who are usually comprised of media personalities, music industry executives, and nationally recognized recording artists.

The park has been fortunate to have made some strong partnerships with some influential players in the music industry primarily due to many of the relationships Clouse has cultivated personally over a diverse career in music, performing arts, and her newest role with the theme park.

"There is just so much talent in the area that surrounds our park" said Clouse, who along with Gary scour the scores of festivals, county fairs, competitions, and even the Internet for would be contestants. "We work hard to put a quality program together each week, and we also work hard in the park's off season to help our contestants realize their dreams of being discovered."

Such was the case for 2009 contest runner up Kyle Whitaker of Morgantown, Kentucky, who through a professional associate of Clouse was picked to compete in the nationally televised CMT television competition known as "The Singing Bee". Whitaker competed again and was a weekly winner in the second week of auditions and will return to compete in the final event as well as Portland, Tennessee singer Elena Korol who also competed in the 2009 program.

Recent winners include Emmy Bodner, who in February 2010 won the Louisville WDRB FOX in the Morning Idol contest and a new Smart Car from Swope Auto Group. Bodner delivered a powerful rendition of “Where Would You Be” by Martina McBride to earn top score on July 31, in a show judged by WUHU radio personality Greg Almond, Starstruck Entertainment A&R executive Velvet Reid, and recording artist Cortney Tidwell.

Emmy is a recent graduate from Floyd Central High School and will be a Freshman at Indiana University Southeast this fall. The talented teenager started singing in church at age 4 and has never stopped. At age 10 she performed the National Anthem at Freedom Hall in Louisville for the Louisville Fire professional indoor football team. In 1997 her original song "Can I Be Your Everything" was shown nationally on the CBS Morning Show.

Emmy regularly performs around the Louisville area either alone or with her band, Exit 119 at venues such as Fourth Street Live, Hard Rock Cafe, KY State Fair, and the KY Derby Fest. She has participated in and won numerous talent and singing competitions including the 4th of July Idol, Riverstage Idol, Harvest Homecoming Idol, Harrison Co 4-H Karaoke Contest, Floyd Co 4-H Fair Talent Show, and the Mike Linnig's Music Festival. In between her performance and work schedule this summer, Emmy has been in the studio recording original songs for release later this year.

Brentwood, Tennessee teenager Lydia Arsta also will join the finalists having won August 7th. Arsta began singing for family and friends at age 7 and became instantly recognized for her wide vocal range and mature voice. According to Lydia, her musical influences come from a variety of genres including r&b, soul, pop, gospel and Nashville's signature sound, country music. Lydia's earliest performances included hits by Fontella Bass (Rescue Me), Leann Rimes, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Linda Rondstadt. Lydia is a student at Christ Presbyterian Academy where she plays soccer, participates in her school choir and musical theater in addition to being an active member of her church youth group.
Lydia performs regularly with C3, ( Children's Christian Choir ) and Gospel Music Recording Artist Jessica Ford at her shows and appearances. Lydia is a member of Nashville Spotlight and was a co-host for the second annual Music City USA Showcase during CMA week this year. Lydia says "I love singing and it is the one thing I look forward to every day. I hope to share my love of singing with others for the rest of my life!"

Beech Bend has two more weeks of auditions for their finale which will take place at the amusement park on August 21st and 28th.

Beech Bend Park found another two talented competitors in their season long quest to find their "Superstar" for the 2010 season. Since the first week of June, the Bowling Green, Kentucky amusement park has been holding weekly auditions for the contest that will be held September 11.
