Rockford, Illinois ~ Benedictine University Rockford Learning Center, which offers undergraduate, graduate and adult accelerated programs is offering certified teachers the opportunity to utilize the Benedictine Educator Scholarship to minimize the cost of earning their graduate degree. The scholarship is available to admitted certified teachers and allows students to complete their first course tuition free. Benedictine has made its accelerated Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Reading and Literacy and Leadership and Administration program as well as the English as Second Language endorsement available to Rockford Public School teachers. Classes will be taught on-site within the district. The program is open to certified teachers in Rockford and the surrounding areas.
“Benedictine University's Moser College is extremely pleased to bring Rockford-area teachers an opportunity to complete their graduate degree in a format that is both manageable and convenient and now more financially feasible,” said Tony Daniels, Benedictine University Rockford Learning Center liaison to the area.
“We know that this program will not only have a positive impact on those teachers who complete it, but also on the children who will benefit from the learning outcomes achieved,” Daniels added.
The M.Ed. Program is a 33-credit hour, accelerated program. It is completed in approximately 15 months. The English as a Second Language Endorsement takes approximately 9 months to complete. Each of these programs are designed to meet the needs of certified teachers. Weekly class sessions are supplemented by the Blackboard Learning System™, an online classroom management tool. The 15-month program also reflects the five standards found in the Illinois state reading teacher standards and leads to a Reading Specialist Certificate.
Benedictine will be hosting an Open House on October 28th from 4-7 p.m.
