(Free-Press-Release.com) January 24, 2012 --
The Biblical Archaeology Society is pleased to announce the publication of the annual Biblical Archaeology Review (BAR) Dig issue (January/February 2012), which features a listing of more than 20 excavation projects in Israel and Jordan that are looking for volunteers for the upcoming 2012 season. In addition, the issue features the article “Join a Dig, See the World” that highlights the many travel adventures and cultural opportunities volunteers can enjoy while participating on an archaeological excavation in the Middle East.
Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the “Digs” page on the BAS Web site. There we provide additional information on projects listed in the current issue of BAR, as well as dozens of other projects that are available only online, including digs in Italy and Spain. For most excavation opportunities, applicants of all ages and levels of experience are welcome to apply, and some programs offer course credit for participation. We also provide information about season dates, project directors, excavation fees and who to contact about volunteering for the upcoming season.
While viewing the 2012 dig opportunities, visitors to the BAS Web site can also download the free eBook I Volunteered For This? Life on an Archaeological Dig, an informative, amusing and sometimes touching collection of articles about dig life by ordinary excavation volunteers. And on Bible History Daily, visitors can read the stories of Hershel Shanks and other BAR editors who relate their varied experiences on archaeological digs and what they learned about the world and themselves during their travels.
The Biblical Archaeology Society is also proud to announce its 2012 BAS Dig Scholarships competition, which offers funding for selected applicants who wish to participate in an archaeological excavation. More information about the BAS Dig Scholarships, including application instructions, can be found on the scholarship section of the BAS Web site.
