West Hollywood -- Free-Press-Release.com-- Jan 30, 2011 -- For decades, the citizens of West Hollywood have been forced to live with billboards, tall walls, large screen video displays and other off-site signs, while billboard companies have received over a billion dollars in advertising revenues and West Hollywood has become the sign capitol of California. The time is now for billboard companies to pay their fair share to the City of West Hollywood for this privilege.
The Major Billboard Companies have challenged a TAX on BILLBOARDS in cities like Philadelphia and LOST! Now the same Billboard Companies and their Political Cronies are mounting a full scale war against the People's Right to Tax Billboards in their city of West Hollywood.
The TAX on BILLBOARDS will be on the March 2011 Ballot as Measure A , Tax Billboard Act. The Tax on Billboards will be 7%
of the $$Millions of Dollars the Billboard Companies profit from off site outdoor signs in West Hollywood. In 2009 the Citizens of West Hollywood had to view the visual blight of Billboards while the Billboard Companies made over $25,000,000.00 ($25 MILLION) in West Hollywood for 2009! The Billboard Companies have made $$Millions more in 2010! The NEW FAIR TAX
on BILLBOARDS could generate over $4MILLION DOLLARS for the People and City for giving the Billboard Companies the privilege of making these massive revenues.
The Tax on Billboards will create new revenue that would permit an expansion of AIDS/HIV Treatment and Prevention Programs, add Community Public Spaces such as Pocket Parks and Public Enhancements for the new library, Public Safety Funds for Sheriff Services, and continue funding for Cultural Affairs and Community Events.
Whether you love billboards or hate them, all agree that they impact the experience of living in West Hollywood and have resulted in massive financial gains to the Billboard Companies. In fairness, Billboard Companies should be required to give back a fair share of these revenues to the community through the "Tax Billboard Act" Initiative, Measure A.
Support the West Hollywood quality of life. Support the “Tax Billboard Act” Initiative. Vote YES on Measure A to Tax Billboards, March 2011!
