There are great stories to be told, says biographer Rix Quinn. Yet many schools – and businesses too – never get around to telling how they got started, and how they help their communities.
“For many,“ says Quinn, “writing an entire book is daunting. Even a small book runs about 15,000 words, and many writers equate that with a long research paper.”
The secret, Quinn says, is to “chapterize” the book into 1000-word sections. Several individuals can then be assigned to write one section each.
“Let’s say you’re writing a high school history,” Quinn explains. “One person can tell how the school began. Another can describe the school’s principals, and another can talk about influential teachers.
“Therefore, instead of a long chronology, you’ve got a dynamic book that spotlights major events and personalities.”
He adds that a school or company history often focuses on (a) demonstrating longevity and stability, (b) spotlighting outstanding leaders, or (c) offering advice or life lessons for readers.
Quinn’s e-book “How to tell your story” goes into much greater detail. It’s available at the following site: http://www.lulu.com/product/ebook/how-to-tell-your-story/15474051
Bonus: The book includes a 30-minute consultation or teleconference with Quinn. For more details, contact Rix Quinn Communications LLC at 817-920-7999, or e-mail rixquinn@charter.net.
