Biosweet Ventures applauds Stevia approval in European Union

Speaking to our correspondent, vice president at Biosweet Ventures, Kavita Gandhi said " Stevia needs no introduction to food & beverage industry. The natural sweetener with zero calories will offer healthier option to European Consumers. In the coming weeks and months, consumers will begin to see new products sweetened with stevia appearing on the shelves in European supermarkets. This will include a wide range of foods, from yogurts to beverages, soft drinks, tabletop sweeteners".

Biosweet Ventures in anticipation of EU stevia approval has been working on developing new products lines & integrated solutions. Today’s consumers are increasingly interested in products that contain few calories, while at the same time they prefer natural ingredients and are not willing to compromise on taste.

Thinking on these lines, Biosweet Ventures has indigenously developed Taste Optimization Technology, that masks the offnotes & bitterness in stevia. The taste is more rounded, subtle & dosen't have the proglonged mouth feel associated with stevia. "The result is outstanding. Infact, in blind tasting sessions conducted, over 83% of people preferred Biosweet's stevia over competitors" said Kavita.

When questioned about the business plans, she said "What makes us different from others, is that we are not in retail business, our business model is private label stevia offering a full range of products right from Stevia Tablets to Liquid Stevia to Stevia Tabletop Sweetener. The company has plans to open an office in UK by first quarter of 2012, which will have centralized operations for entire EU. Speaking further on product lines, Kavita said, "All of our retailable products are made from only 97% Rebaudioside A, confirming to US FDA GRAS norms, which exceeds EU specifications, that gives an exceptional taste. We have however also developed solutions with lower purity of Stevia Extracts for price sensitive countries & savoury applications"
