She started off as an anchor at CNN Headline News, and after four years on the anchor desk, she moved to CNN in 1986. Her career at CNN included anchoring and reporting numerous television programs such as World News, CNN Today, Newsday, Prime News, and NewsHour.

Ms. Battista reported on 23 years of history and events including the 9/11 Bombings, the Gulf War, the fall of the Berlin Wall and of the Soviet Union, and the Challenger explosion. She also covered many national political conventions. In addition, Ms. Battista anchored a program on CNN International. She is the only anchor in America to have worked at all three of CNN's networks.

Ms. Battista is perhaps most well known for hosting CNN’s Talkback Live. The program was the first interactive talk show, and it aired M-F from 3-4PM (ET). As the host of Talkback, she blended a live audience, several guests, and a nationwide high-tech audience into a fast-paced interview and discussion program. As the host of the show, she supervised a staff of twelve.

Before her years at CNN, Ms. Battista was the primary 6 and 11 anchor for Action News 5, WRAL-TV in Raleigh, N.C. for seven years. She also held positions as a producer and reporter while there. She began her career at WAKS Radio in Raleigh, N.C.

After leaving CNN, she started the company Atamira Communications which was based in Atlanta, Georgia. She offered media guidance, strategy consulting, and market intelligence to clients. Atamira also offered corporate video production services.

Ms. Battista returned to live television when she went to work for Retirement Living Television in Washington, DC. She won a George Foster Peabody Award for writing and producing a documentary on juvenile crime.

Among other disinctions, Ms. Battisa was nominated for a CableAce award for Best Newscaster in 1995. She was selected by cable viewers as Outstanding News Personality in "On Cable" Magazine’s annual poll and voted Best Newscaster in Cable Guide’s annual readers poll.
