SAN FRANCISCO, California (February 13, 2012)—Black Coyote Wines and majority owner Vanessa Robledo both scored big in recent Top 100 surveys. The Black Coyote 2007 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Atlas Peak was named one of The Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Wines of 2011. Almost simultaneously, Vanessa Robledo was honored by the Girl Scouts of Northern California for making a significant impact to sustain the environment, economy, or community and reflect the diverse ethnic and geographic communities that Girl Scouts serve.
The coveted Top 100 award from The Wine Enthusiast is given to just 100 of the more than 16,000 wines reviewed by the Wine Enthusiast’s tasting panel. The 2007 Black Coyote Reserve Cabernet scored a stunning 97 points from the tasting panel. The Wine Enthusiast raved about the wine calling it “absolutely delicious, with dazzling blackberry and tart cherry pie with sweet, smoky crust, cassis and baking spice flavors.” It went on to say that the wine, tasted blind with a large group of Napa Valley Cabernets, stood out for sheer power and authority.
Dr. Ernest Bates, founder of Black Coyote Wines was honored to accept the award for his wine. “Black Coyote has been dedicated to producing one of the world’s finest wines. Since Vanessa has taken over the reins of our company in 2008, we have dramatically improved both our quality and our sales to consumers. This award provides great recognition for our company, but even more for Vanessa Robledo.”
Commemorating their 100th year anniversary, the Girl Scouts have selected 100 women from Northern California who are “greening the future.” The Girl Scouts have selected these women for making significant impact to sustaining the environment, the economy and the community as well as reflecting the diverse ethnic communities that Girl Scouts serve. The illustrious selection committee included Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State; Peggy Fleming, Olympic Gold Medalist; Amy Tan, Best-selling author and Cindy Pawlcyn, renowned Napa Valley Chef among others.
Fellow recipients include other well-known wine industry notables like Sara Cakebread, Cathy Corison, Eileen Crane, Zelma Long and Christine Wente along with television personalities Roberta Gonzales and Sydnie Kohara. All 100 of the honorees will be honored in a series of events to be kicked off with a gala reception and dinner at the San Francisco Ferry Building on Monday March 12, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
“I was so excited when our Black Coyote Cabernet Sauvignon was recognized as one of the top 100 wines in the world,” Robledo exclaimed, “but to be honored by the Girl Scouts as part of such an amazing group of women is quite special. I can’t wait to attend the various 100th Anniversary Celebrations to meet and spend time with my fellow honorees.” Vanessa Robledo is planning on attending the following events:
March 12th, SF Ferry Building
Saturday, May 12th Alamo, Round Hill Country Club
June 14th, Rutherford, Beaulieu Garden
