Ronda Del Boccio, an award-winning blind author from Branson, Missouri with numerous published stories, articles, and books to her credit, adds a new column to her credentials. She has just begun a new reader-driven column for Dialogue Magazine in which she answers readers’ questions. .Dialogue Magazine is an international news periodical for people coping with vision loss.
“People who are blind or losing their vision do things differently. The way sighted people cook is quite different from the way I do,” Del Boccio said. She tests doneness by smell and feel rather than looks, and she uses other non-visual methods to cook and maintain her home.
She pointed out that there are many misconceptions about blindness, some of which can actually lead to injury. . For example, “Most people think blind folks should use dull knives, believing this is safer than a sharp one. A sharp knife is safer and much more effective for anyone. Anyone can learn how to cook and maintain your home, even with little or no eyesight.”
She has been legally blind since birth, yet this prolific author and entrepreneur lets nothing stand in her way. When she’s not whipping something up in the kitchen, Del Boccio is at the computer adding to her published works. She has two new books published this year. The Peace Seed came out in May. The other, hitting the bookshelves in August, is The Instant VIP, in which she teaches business owners and experts how to write a book.
Over the past three years, she has been and continues to be the Home Front columnist for Dialogue Magazine. Her articles have taught readers how to make cookies, prepare a holiday feast, make brunch in an hour, and stock the pantry for easy food preparation on the fly, to name just a few topics.
Her article in the current issue is “The Well Stocked Larder.” She teaches readers that having certain foods on hand makes it easy to be, as she calls it, “a more agile and creative cook.”
This issue also includes her new feature. Readers started writing in with questions, so the publishers of DIALOGUE asked her to answer them publicly. The question in the current issue came from a reader asking how to separate an egg as a blind person. “That’s something you may do without even thinking, but I’ll bet you use your eyes,” said Del Boccio.
Dialogue Magazine comes out every other month in large print or cassette. See sample articles or subscribe at http://www.Blindskills.com
