Corrections professionals throughout the Northeast converge on New Hampshire

2nd Annual Armor Technology Workshop - Focus on Corrections – April 15, 2010

March 17, 2010, New Ipswich, NH – The first Armor Technology Workshop focused on ballistic-resistant body armor and attracted law enforcement personnel from police departments throughout the Granite State. This year, the workshop will focus on armor technology designed for use in a corrections environment. State and County corrections agencies all over the Northeast will send representatives to New Ipswich to learn about stab-resistant armor technology.

The three-part workshop is structured to provide Corrections Officers and administrators with a thorough understanding of corrections armor technology, manufacturing processes, test methods, and grant opportunities.

Officers spend an hour in the classroom learning about federal grant opportunities, National Institute of Justice test standards, and various types of body armor. The group then moves to the manufacturing floor where Officers observe each step of the armor manufacturing process and quality control measures. The workshop wraps up with an interactive stab testing session. Attendees have the opportunity to not only observe, but participate in live armor testing.

The event is hosted by Warwick Mills, Inc., the manufacturer of TurtleSkin Corrections Armor. Event coordinator and Market Manager John Cronin said, “There’s no better place to see how stab-resistant armor is manufactured and tested than an armor manufacturing plant. This is a great opportunity for corrections professionals to learn about armor and network with other professionals from the region.”

When last year’s attendees were asked if this was a valuable experience, here’s what some of the Officers had to say:

“After nearly 20 years in law enforcement, I now understand the NIJ standards and how they apply. Any agency who supplies vests for their employees should attend this workshop.” -Sgt. Patrick Caggiano

“It was fascinating. I had never seen the production side of the one piece of gear we as police officers often take for granted.” -Sgt. Cori Casey

Attendance is strictly limited to pre-registered corrections professionals with proper identification. Host and attendees will be available for pre-scheduled media interviews during the lunch hour from 12-1PM. Workshop begins promptly at 10AM on 4/15/2010. The event will be hosted at Warwick Mills, Inc. 301 Turnpike Road, New Ipswich, NH. Those interested in attending should contact John Cronin for more information: jcronin@warwickmills.com or 603-291-1002.
