Booming law firm opens Newcastle city centre office

Peter Millican Law, which specialises in legal advice and training for businesses and public sector clients, has opened a new office on Collingwood Street, Newcastle.

The move will help the Firm meet burgeoning demand for its services from businesses, local authorities, schools and FE colleges seeking help on topics such as employment and company law partnership/shareholder agreements, contract law, public procurement, business terms and conditions and litigation and education-related law.

The move coincides with the appointment of lawyer Stephen Wilson, who joins the firm after a successful career in the public and private sector, where he has worked for a number of organisations across the country. Stephen, 30, from Forest Hall, studied law at Northumbria University and specialises in commercial matters, in particular commercial contracts and public procurement.

“Our clients come from right across the business spectrum from bars and restaurants to engineering firms to schools. But a real growth area for us has been in shareholder agreements and other legal documentation for the protection of hard-earned brands, products, services and all other business assets” said Peter. “We see this being a service which will be of particular interest to city centre clients, more and more of whom are turning to us. With Stephen’s skills the new Newcastle office will be perfectly placed to help us meet their specific needs.”

Since establishing in Ashington’s Lintonville Enterprise Park in 2005, Peter Millican Law has gone from strength to strength, with particular success in the education field, especially the legal technicalities of establishing new academy schools and design and build contracts. Another growth area more recently has been in debt collection particularly in these difficult economic times for business.

“Establishing the right legal framework for business is essential whatever sector it operates in, not only from a contractual point of view but also to keep managers on the right side of the law,” said Peter.

“Our service is bespoke and rooted very firmly in what individual businesses need. We visit clients’ businesses personally to gain a firm understanding and appreciation of what they do, and we think that’s what our clients like.”

The firm also offers a series of training courses on topics as diverse as employment law, new business formations, shareholder agreements, commercial contracts and academy conversions for schools. The firm is now seeking to expand further and are currently recruiting a Trainee Solicitor to be based at the firm’s offices in Newcastle.
