BOSTON COMEDY, FASHION, VISUAL ART, AND CHEF COMMUNITY COME TOGETHER FOR ONE NIGHT

Duplessy Foundation dubs Artists’ Celebration event as Art event for everyone

Boston, MA – August 29, 2011 – The Duplessy Foundation’s Artists’ Celebration event is attempting to bring together the segregated world of Boston’s arts community at Venu (also known as Nick’s Comedy Stop) on September 24 from 7-10pm. The annual event is a showcase of up-and-coming local artistic talent including chefs, fashion designers, visual artists, and comedians. For the first time, the event will also honor local contributors to the artistic community including Chef Didi Emmons of Haley House, Dan McCole of the South Boston Artists Association, Joan Morris, fashion designer and faculty at Lasell College, and Angie Frissore, co-founder of the Boston Comedy Relay. Proceeds from the Artists’ Celebration event will benefit the foundation’s mentoring program which helps 18-24 year old artists who are not in college reach a long-term career goal.

“Events such as Boston Fashion Week, Boston Comedy Festival, Boston Ahts Festival, and Restaurant Week target people with particular artistic interests, Artists’ Celebration is the first to combine all of the elements into one event,” says Derrick Duplessy, the foundation’s executive director.

The featured artists for Artists’ Celebration are an eclectic group. Chefs Graham Schave from South End’s Coda and Grace Brinton from Formaggio Kitchen will participate alongside home chefs like Sara Brenton and Christine Mabe in a chef challenge. Each chef creates 100 pieces of unique hors d’oeuvres from $60 worth of ingredients. The visual artists, comedians, and fashion designers are also a blend of professionals and amateurs.

Fashion designers include Emily Brennan, a recent winner of the “Form to Fashion” competition at Natick Collection, civil engineer turned designer Kate Alves, social entrepreneur Daniel Rechel who donates 100% of net proceeds to nonprofits, dress and garment designer Zoya Derevyannich and costume designer for Metro West Opera Charles Neumann.

Visual Artists include Emmy winning digital artist Linda Sacenti, comic illustrator and regular contributor to Weekly Dig, Ellen Crenshaw, monotype printer Lynda Goldberg, honoree Dan McCole, mosaic artist Ariel Shoemaker, and international muralist and art therapist Tova Speter.

Comedians include Ken Reid who has opened for acts like Patton Oswalt and Bob Saget, one of Curve Magazine’s top ten comedians Chantal Carrere, winner of “Catch a Rising Star” comedy competition Jenny Zigrino, and the winner of Going.com and WBCN’s “Boston Best Stand-Up” contest Kyle Ploof.

Tickets are $25 online, $30 at the door, and $50 for VIP tickets and doors open at 7pm. More information and tickets for Artists’ Celebration event can be found online at www.duplessy.org.
