BREAKOUT EMERGING DESIGNER GENETTE SALGADO TAKES WESTERN CANADA FASHION WEEK BY STORM

(Free-Press-Release.com) May 13, 2011 -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Edmonton, AB, April 6th, 2011: Edmonton based designer Genette Salgado literally rendered the fashion community speechless from the very moment the first model hit the runway during the presentation of her fall/winter 2011 collection at the Transalta Arts Barn just off Edmonton’s trendy Whyte Avenue on March 29th, 2011.

This season marks the designer’s third collection and solidifies her commitment to making the Genette Salgado brand a household name. This fall/winter collection, consisting solely of dresses, is entitled “Baby, Whatcha Gonna Do With Your Life”, the inspiration for which came to Genette while listening to the classic 80’s girl power anthem “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper. The designer explains how the song suited the collection perfectly "as it parallels my inspiration of evening soirees of the upper crust during the Edwardian Era with my current position of not knowing what my next moves will be. Everything’s up in air and it’s a matter of figuring out what will come after.”

True to the fundamentals of the Genette Salgado brand this collection was full of opposites - at once combining feminine and edgy styles with Avant-Garde yet every piece was completely wearable. From each hand cut, intricately hand-sewn flower to every individually placed stud, each dress in her collection is a testament to the Genette Salgado woman - fun, individualistic, smart, a zest for life, a love for fashion and strong sense of self.

This was the first season for Genette Salgado at Western Canada Fashion Week in Edmonton. “The show was an enjoyable experience and the opportunity has allowed me to meet and connect with many industry professionals” according to Salgado. Showing locally has provided the Genette Salgado label, as well as many other emerging designers, with “a launching pad for emerging designers to gain exposure through numerous media outlets as well as introduce the designers to potential retail buyers/clients and the general public.”

Salgado is currently working on a Ready-to-Wear collection for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 season as well as creating several custom bridesmaids and wedding dresses. Her samples will be for sale online in the coming months as well.
