Melbourne 19 April 2009 – www.prepaidplans.com.au was launched in 2008 to allow everyday prepaid mobile phone users to compare the prepaid plans offered by various companies.
“About a year ago, I was looking for a prepaid mobile offer for my wife , when I realised how hard it was to compare the pricing and features by surfing between various sites. There were a few comparison sites but these were not comprehensive, only listing the main phone companies. I accumulated a spreadsheet and thought, why not let others access this.” says Arthur Koulianos, prepaidplans.com.au owner.
“I had never built a website, but with the help of a friend, I was able to register the site and get it live within a few days. Over a month I began adding all of the content and so in September of 2008 www.prepaidplans.com.au was actually live and taking in visitors.”
This site covers many features that each plan has, and highlights the features that make a difference to the customer experience and their wallet. So you can do a quick and easy comparison and then make your decision in your own time.
There are several mobile phone comparison services out there and every 6 or so months, a new one is launched. The difference with prepaid plans is that it covers everyone, all 16 providers. It doesn’t do what all the others do – only list providers that will offer them a commission if a sale is generated.
“People don’t realise that Telstra and Optus aren’t your only prepaid mobile options. There are 14 other providers out there with potentially much better deals for you which means you can really save some money with your prepaid mobile. At the end of the day, going prepaid with your mobile is all about saving money”.
www.prepaidplans.com.au does not only cover prepaid mobile phone plans. It was also first to cover all prepaid internet plans and sim only no contract mobile phone plans.
“I always thought that prepaid internet would take off. At the time it was only available for dialup plans but slowly 3G Mobile Broadband was born and launched and now it’s the hottest thing on the market” says Arthur Koulianos
Sim Only plans was born out of the fact that sometimes people want a little more credit value than can be offered by a prepaid mobile plan. This sits halfway between prepaid and contract.
Prepaid Plans has also launched a popular “Online Chat Service” to assist customers who have a question and would like it answered. When the Telco call centre has closed and you would like to know about a prepaid mobile offer they have advertised, you now have someone to go to.
“In terms of emerging trends, the biggest changes I have seen in the past 18 months is in prepaid internet with the price of USB modems falling by half and with the bundling of 2 & even 3GB of data. This has been phenomenal and really opened the market”.
“From the prepaid mobile perspective, offers from the likes of Woolworths have shaken the market, cheap basic plans that you can access easily from your local supermarket. I also see the growing demand for better data offers. This has been an area that is really lacking at the moment, particularly with so many people walking around with a smart phone”.
“As far as what to look out for is concerned, price is one thing, ensuring that you get value for money is another. There are three key features to be checking: Call Rates, Credit Expiry and Credit Value (ie how many free calls does that give you). There is nothing worse that spending $30 on a recharge and finding out that it has expired with $15 of unused credit”.
