Los Angeles, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 27, 2011 -- Sitar player Paul Livingstone and Arohi Ensemble join forces with organist Christoph Bull for a dynamic concert of traditional and contemporary music steeped in the classical architectures of India and Europe. Exploring diverse forms from Indian raga to Baroque fugue, the concert features solos, duos and ensembles in a unique breadth of form and collective improvisation.

Christoph Bull is the fifth university organist at UCLA. He has performed in cathedrals worldwide, including Moscow, Salzburg and Los Angeles. His latest album First & Grand is the premiere recording of Walt Disney Concert Hall’s pipe organ. Paul Livingstone is one of the leading sitarists in America. He has toured in India, Europe and Latin America and composes ‘ragajazz chamber music’ for Arohi’s unique combination of virtuoso artists.

In Sanskrit, Arohi means “ascending melody.” It is a metaphor for the spiritual intention of the music. Livingstone leads Arohi with Venezuelan world wind phenomenon Pedro Eustache. Their twenty-year collaborative relationship includes studies under Amiya Dasgupta, Rajeev Taranath and the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar. Pedro was recently the soloist for his own major symphonic work conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. The ensemble also features Abhijit Banerjee, one of the world’s foremost classical tabla players. His playing is complemented by the explosive and intricate work of jazz drummer Dave Lewis. Peter Jacobson’s sensitive cello adds a dimension of diversity ranging from Bach to Latin and Indian music.
