Brighton councillors will meet today to discuss proposals for a major investment in local housing.
A £74.6 million scheme has been drawn up by city leaders with the aim of improving both the quantity and quality of homes available in the city and will be assessed in a meeting tonight.
The result of the meeting is likely to be of interest to many letting agents in Brighton, who may be keen to hear about any new properties that could be available to let.
In an interview with BBC News, Brighton & Hove City Council’s cabinet member for housing Liz Wakefield warned that it could prove difficult to meet the current demand for properties in the city.
She said: “The current public spending squeeze means we face a real challenge in dealing with the city’s housing crisis. However, the budget proposals aim to make a big difference. As a council we’re determined to build new homes, improve our homes and bring long-term council and private sector empty homes back into use.”
Brighton-hove.gov.uk report that the proposals also include details of how to reduce carbon emissions in Brighton by up to 2,000 tonnes of CO2 via the refurbishment of council homes and the installation of energy-efficient lighting across the city.
