Brooklyn Trainer Vincent Ferguson Affirmed as New York City Fitness Czar

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 27, 2010 -- (Brooklyn, New York)-- According to the city Department of Health 42% of pre-school children and 43% of elementary school children in the city are overweight or obese. New York City parents were looking for a person that could teach them how to raise healthier kids while motivating their children to more active lifestyles. Vincent Ferguson, the Founder & President of Body Sculpt of New York was the undisputed choice to serve as the “New York City Fitness Czar”.

Long before childhood obesity became the "cause du jour", this certified personal trainer and ex Navy man recognized children were eating unhealthy, gaining weight at alarming rates, not exercising consistently and frequently diagnosed with diabetes and high cholesterol. In response to disturbing statistics plaguing our youth, in 2004 Vincent Ferguson and Body Sculpt of New York created the Children’s Sports & Fitness Expo, a semi-annual event designed to provide school-age children free access to over 30 sports activities including fencing, archery, golf, tennis, swimming, along with nutrition education and essential health screenings.

The first few years Ferguson personally financed the expos because he was eager and highly committed to making it his special mission to get our kids fit and healthy. Today the organization has garnered intense support from NYC borough presidents, NYS Senators, government health officials, faith-based and community organizations including United Federation of Teachers, Police Athletic League, Sports New York and a host of high profile brands including Nike, Radio Disney and Ringling Brothers.

Upon his return from the U.S. Navy, Ferguson found his Brooklyn neighborhood ravaged with crack cocaine and other drugs. In 1989 he created Body Sculpt of New York, Inc., a not-for-profit health and fitness organization to offer children an alternative to drugs – physical fitness. He and a group of body building friends would travel to borough schools, to get their anti drug message out.

Today Vincent Ferguson’s message on healthy living resonates loud & strong throughout New York City. His consistency to remain on the forefront of children's health issues has appropriately earned him the title “New York City Fitness Czar”.
