A building block set is an all-time favorite with young children, which helps them to develop their creative skills while learning at the same time. While some brands are exclusively for children to exercise their creativity, there are several other brands that aim to teach children the basics of colors, spellings, shapes, counting, nursery rhymes, math and even music and good manners. Several of these building block sets are available for children aged one and above and provide them with gradual learning as they grow older, until they reach the age of five. The blocks intended for younger ages start off from educating children about colors, and ultimately progress to learning and basic mathematical concepts such as counting and even basic addition and subtraction.
These blocks may also be used to assemble structures and several brands can easily be combined with other building block sets to increase the fun and captivate the attention of young children at the same time. Many parents mistakenly assume that building blocks are just blocks that serve no useful purpose, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Some blocks even come in talking varieties that creatively explain concepts to young children in a fun way that really appeals to them. These blocks also come in a wide variety of bright colors that hold children’s attention. Not only does a building block set provide hours of entertainment to young children – and indirectly peace and quiet for parents – they can also be a great way for children to learn about colors as they play and have fun.
Building block sets do not necessarily have to be cubical blocks that fit together. Many toy companies are now coming up with wooden blocks that come with planks that can just be piled one on top of another for many interesting effects. These sets have been inspired by traditional logs, and makes play time much more fun for children who are now not restricted by how their blocks fit with one another. These blocks with their straight lines are designed for older children and help them to learn about basic concepts of science, especially about gravity. Children aged twelve and above might even go for more complicated sets in order to build complicated mechanical structures like buildings, vehicles and aircraft. These sets come with instruction manuals, keeping children entertained but also teaching them how to focus their attention on a project and follow instructions at the same time.
