BUILDING BLOCKS – WHAT IS THE APPLICATION?

However, the commercial aspect of building blocks became popular over the years and hence their application in the construction industry and interior design industry is better known among people.

Building blocks used in the construction industry have a totally different requirement. They needed to be rugged in nature and design as they are used in making replica or miniature copies of large buildings or shopping complexes or a special economic zone. The contractor who takes a construction order is required to first produce a mimic or miniature overview of the whole construction in 3D. Hence, instead of a mere sketch, if a 3D model is given to the client, it becomes very easy to comprehend the design.
Also, building blocks are used to create replica of famous buildings like the Opera House, Sydney, the taj mahal and other world famous architectures for a museum or other places where they can be put in display. For all these applications, the building blocks are made in small sizes and they are interconnected using various techniques like blending and mounding and they are made into a single large structure.

However, the application of building blocks in education sector is little known. The building blocks as games are supposed to enhance the spatial, social, analytical and other math skills of the kids. When performed in groups, these games are also supposed to develop team spirit and team work culture which is very much desirable these days. Many different games like jigsaw puzzle, building development, statue creation and animal creation can be developed using the building blocks. Many new animals and flora can be explored using the building blocks. Typical forest structures can be re-created and the social and environmental awareness of the kids can be developed. This also is an activity of fun for the kids who shall immensely enjoy a group activity as a game and inherently learn without realizing the process.
The materials used for building blocks in construction shall be wood or hard stone whereas when it comes to kids, it shall be mostly plastic or soft wood as it is being handled by tender hands. The outer surface is made very smooth so that the kids enjoy the whole process as a game and not as a mere school activity.
