December 9, 2011, Coral Springs, FL – The producers of Business Day are pleased to announce that ClinStar will be featured as part of their Medical Minutes series.
The process of bringing a new medication from development stage to full FDA approval and releasing it for use by the public is a long and arduous one. It can take 10-15 years and around a billion dollars to launch a new drug product and after all that, only 1 in 5 such products reaches the break even point.
One of the most intensive components in the development process is the human study phase and, with qualified subjects becoming more difficult to find, pharmaceutical companies are looking more and more to do this work overseas. To help in this endeavor, they turn to Contract Research Organizations, or CROs, who specialize in conducting clinical trials in emerging markets.
San Francisco-based ClinStar is just such a CRO, with solid contacts in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic States. The company is one of the longest-running organizations in this region, with offices in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev and Minsk as well as regionally throughout Russia and other parts of Eastern Europe.
“More and more of this research is being conducted outside the traditional markets of North America and Western Europe,” says David Passov, ClinStar’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “This is not necessarily driven only by somewhat lower cost but rather by the ability to significantly speed up drug development by accessing a global population of 7 billion people.”.”
The local populations tend to be grateful for the chance to access advanced western medical resources and to benefit from new breakthrough medications long before these drugs and healthcare products would normally become available to them.
