Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jan.23, 2012 — Making constant upgrades to its academic programs to keep pace with current industry demand has been a hallmark of CollegeAmerica’s commitment to offering the most relevant post-secondary education.
Taking yet another stride in this direction, the college has announced the introduction of two new emphasis areas to its Associate’s of Applied Science (AOS) in Business Management and Accounting program.
Students of this AOS degree at CollegeAmerica now have the option of choosing between a Retail Sales Management and an Event Planning emphasis.
The overall focus of the Business Management and Accounting program is to provide graduates a strong foundation in a variety of disciplines like accounting, marketing, finance, and other business principles, as well as economic concepts and management functions.
The program has been structured in a manner such that by the time they graduate, students should have the skills to take on a variety of responsible business roles.
In addition to the regular courses covered in the program, graduates who choose the Retail Sales Management emphasis are offered courses such as Introduction to Retail Sales Management, Managing Retail Teams, Communication in Selling and Procurement, and Logistics and Merchandising.
The purpose of teaching these concepts is to give students a deep understanding of the retail industry, familiarize them with some successful selling strategies, and make them customer focused in their approach.
Once they graduate, graduates should have the know-how and competencies to pursue entry- to mid-level positions in the retail environment.
Trade show and event planning is a $12 billion industry in the United States and employs about 94,739 professionals, who organize, promote, and manage events.1The AOS degree in Business Management and Accounting with Event Planning emphasis is aimed at grooming these professionals. The courses taught as part of this program train graduates in different aspects of pre- and post-event planning and management.
The skills they acquire as part of their training can qualify graduates for employment in corporate, hospitality, non-profit, and government settings as event planners, coordinators, and conference managers.
