his days traveling.

“He couldn’t run a business without someone being here every day,” recalls Craig Truglia, Jerry’s 24-year-old son and
the owner of the newly-opened Car Clinic in Mahopac.

Craig grew up learning all kinds of automotive skills from his father (he even got his Mobile Air Conditioning Society license when he was 12 years old). Craig was working as a teacher in the Bronx after receiving a Masters Degree in Education. Sick of the crime in the Bronx and the politics of teaching in New York City, he decided the time was right to go into his father’s field.

On Jan. 4, Craig and Jerry opened Car Clinic, an automotive shop in Lupi Plaza. Craig works full-time running the shop
while his dad lends his expertise, as well as a whole lot of equipment.

Craig estimates the shop has access to more than $1 million worth of equipment. The tools mostly come from Jerry’s
consulting; a business will ask him for input on the tool, which he will provide after receiving it. Since he gets all these tools for free, he can afford to keep more tools in the shop than most businesses.

“When shops don’t have the right equipment, they have to take educated guesses about what they can replace. So they’re replacing parts and replacing parts, and they’re taking labor time. It costs someone more money instead of diagnosing
it right the first time and repairing only what needs to be repaired,” Craig said. “You can’t do that without the right equipment.”

Since the Car Clinic has equipment from numerous car manufacturers, they believe that if there’s something wrong with your car they can find the problem.

“If someone made it, we can diagnose it and fix it,” Jerry said. “We’re so confident that we can diagnose it that if we can’t
diagnose it, it’s zero [dollars]. We don’t charge the customer anything.”
