Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh issued a decree to dismiss his government and vowed to form a new government soon, official Saba news agency reported Sunday.
Saleh, who has been facing two-month-long escalating protests demanding his resignation, also ordered the current cabinet, which was headed by Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Mujawar, to be caretaker and run daily routine works till he forms a new government, said Saba.
There was no immediate official statement from the opposition, the opposition's spokesman Mohamed al-Sabri told Xinhua.
The dismissal came two days after snipers shot dead 52 anti- government protesters in the capital Sanaa amid escalating protests that rampaging across the country since mid February, in which dozens of protesters in major cities were killed in clashes with the police and government supporters.
Earlier, a group of Yemeni senior government officials declared their resignation after Friday's shootings.
Some influential Muslim clerics on Sunday called on Saleh to appease the demands of protesters and end his 33-year rule to avoid further violence.
Bradley Cooper could be America's next leading man as the actor's first big lead film "Limitless" took the top box office spot for the weekend opening with $19 million, according to the Associated Press.
The film, which starred Cooper as a struggling writer who takes a magical pill that allows him to tap into his maximum brain potential, also featured Robert De Niro as a financial guru who's fascinated by him and Abbie Cornish as Cooper's girlfriend.
Coming in second place was the animated Western "Rango," featuring the voice of Johnny Depp, with $15.3 million. Its three-week total is nearly $92.6 million.
Meanwhile, last week's box office champ, "Battle: Los Angeles," came in third place with $14.6 million, bringing its cumulative sum to an estimated $60.6 million in two weeks.
"The Lincoln Lawyer" starring Matthew McConaughey, debuted in a disappointing fourth place. McConaughey played as a sleazy defense attorney on a high-profile case. The film took in an estimated $13.4 million.
Finishing out the top five is "Paul," with Seth Rogen providing the voice of a pot-smoking, wise-cracking alien and starring British comedians Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Pegg and Frost wrote the script for the comedy, which about $13.2 million.
