Port of Spain, Trinidad - August 16, 2011 - On August 20, 2011 the Calabash Consortium, Inc. will host its ground-breaking Young Men's Education and Empowerment (YMEE) Symposium at the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Center. Having left young women enthralled, enlightened and empowered by its recently held Young Women’s Education & Empowerment Program ("YWEEP") Symposium, the organization will now switch its focus to advancing the development of young men. Guaranteed to be a life-changing experience, the YMEE Symposium will immerse 100-125 young men from throughout Trinidad and Tobago in an empowerment and leadership experience like no other.
The YMEE initiative is an intervention focused on counteracting the cross-cutting development challenges facing young men (ages 13-25). The goal of YMEE is to educate and empower young men to rise above the limiting social, cultural and economic conditions they encounter in their life context by equipping them with the essential tools to do so. The theme of this year's symposium is "Shifting the Trajectory - Cultivating Brighter, Responsible, Industrious, Successful and Knowledgeable (BRISK) Young Men".
Recognizing the need to prepare young men to achieve, the Calabash Consortium has convened a line-up of outstanding speakers to deliver an enriching experience for participants. Invitees include: the His Excellency, President George Maxwell Richards, World Renowned Martial Artist, Professor Don Jacobs, Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Alvin Hilaire, Former Minister of Legal Affairs Peter Taylor, Chair of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Rene "Zazou" Williamson and Speaker, Author, Coach, Motivator, and Master Goal-Setter, Nigel Wall, to name a few.
Programmatically sound in its design, YMEE was constructed with the local male demographic as its primary target. Some of the landmark sessions of the symposium include:- 'Brothers Speak - YMEE - Because I Matter!', 'Book Smarts & Street Smarts', 'Awakening ME - My Empowerment', ' Hallmarks of Aspiration - Life in the Lead Seat', “SWAGGER” Professional and Street, 'Change your Trajectory - Be BRISK' and MYjOURney ™!
Lead sponsors of the YMEE Symposium 2011 include Allied Security Limited, Atlantic and MACO Magazines.
