California based solar company with Hawaii ties wins prestigious solar award

Hawaiian Energy Systems, Inc. owned by Darrell Ing and Granite Bay Energy, owner /operator Holli Tamas has won one of the most prestigious environmental awards given in the State of California.

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 24, 2011 -- SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Schwarzenegger announced that Venida Packing has won the 2010 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) for its 500 kW Dual Axis Solar Tracking System installed by Granite Bay Energy of Roseville, California.

GEELA is the California's highest and most prestigious environmental honor. The award program recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership for voluntary achievements in conserving California’s resources, protecting and enhancing the environment, and building public-private partnerships.
“This honor recognizes both companies commitment to developing socially responsible and environmentally friendly practices that promote environmental protection and economic growth,” said Holli Tamas, owner of Granite Bay Energy and Hawaiian Energy in Honolulu, HI. “Venida Packing and Granite Bay Energy have an obligation to our families and community to protect our natural resources and environment for generations to come.”

Granite Bay Energy is proud of this prestigious award and is known as one of the largest privately owned solar integrators in the US specializing in the industry’s most advanced commercial scale solar tracking technology. “Solar in the US is in high demand right now, our company has grown to do business in 8 different states with offices now in Oregon and Honolulu, Hawaii. “ said Holli Tamas.
Award recipients are chosen in ten different categories based on their strength in eight specific areas including results, transferability, environmental impact, resource conservation, economic progress, innovation and uniqueness, pollution prevention, and environmental justice. Venida Packing won the award for environmental impact and innovation and uniqueness.
Venida Packing is one of only 13 other recipients that accepted awards last night at The Governors’ Global Climate Summit 3 in Davis.

The Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Awards program was established in 1993. The award program is administered by the California Environmental Protection Agency and the California Natural Resources Agency in collaboration with the State and Consumer Services Agency, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, California Labor and Workforce Development Agency and the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
