Yaoundé, Cameroon – Investing in youth is one of the most profitable businesses. That’s what the Cameroonian Government intends to do. The Government in Cameroon is preparing a plan which aims to develop the new Cameroonian elite. Considering that the youth should be more appreciated, the Government in Cameroon is looking forward to invest in young people, which is why they already started this plan by beefing up the school map, fighting against repeating a grade, etc. Among the other measures this strategy is based on, should be mentioned the rate of 100% access and completion of the elementary education and the 1:1 girl-to-boy ratio which the Cameroonian Government aims to be reached.

The development plan elaborated by the Cameroonian Government has as target both, the elementary and higher education level. In elementary education section, the Government started some recruitment processes, 6,940 new teachers have already signed the employment contracts. The infrastructure section should not be neglected either, the Government in Cameroon having an ongoing construction and equipping process of around 1000 classrooms in the rural areas. The public authorities consider elementary education being the most important, so in this sense, their will help with more manuals or building new schools in the poor areas. The Ministry of Public Health signed an agreement with AES SONEL Company in order to promote programs of work and study in secondary education level, this measure having as main target the 5% of more students in the technical field, given the lack of technical human resources and equipments.

The Cameroonian Government is also looking to strengthen the higher education level, process already started in 2009 with the opening of the University of Maroua, university that hosts around 7,000 students. Other certain universities specialized in fine arts or halieutic sciences have also opened their gates in cities like Foumban, Nkongsamba and Yabassi. The infrastructure in higher education is also on Cameroonian Government’s list, given the fact that the number of students at State universities is growing. The Government intends to invest in creating a virtual university, this way encouraging Cameroonian students to adopt the Occidental learning style.

Until now, the current Cameroonian Government invested CFAF 9 billion in higher learning level and intends to continue with the investments after the Cameroonian President announced back in 2009 that the Government will give another CFAF 3 billion for the best students in Cameroon. The investment list continues with the rehabilitation of the Rural Artisan/Home Economics Centres in Ebebda, Edea, Mbengwi, Soa and Mbanga, an investment worth of over CFAF 2 billion.

The Cameroonian Government is looking forward to strengthen its future by investing in education, in youth. In this sense, the Government in Cameroon intends to continue its investment process in higher learning system, by creating a virtual university, but especially in the elementary level, where many Cameroonians pupils in the underprivileged areas need Government’s attention.
