MOUSTOULAT, Corrèze, France - 6th February 2012 | British Artist; FREEMAN david has opened the doors to his secret makeshift studio, located in deepest, darkest rural France. To unveil what he describes as his living odyssey of myth, magic, enigma and enlightenment, also simply known as the 'Quercus Circus' which is a unique iPhone App. based treasure hunt, due to be launched on Apple's iTunes App store on 29th February 2012.
“Back when I started this project in 2009, I was already aware that the iPhone would herald a new age of media content, the technology was exactly what I had been waiting for. With the launch of the iPhone 4 and now 4S, featuring their incredible Retina display resolutions, the sky is the limit. Plans for my second instalment to this treasure hunt pentalogy are already in progress. Without giving too much away, as far as I’m concerned traditional computer based gaming concepts are old hat, forget 3D as well. 4D is where I’m at, you know - space and time”.
Based around an age-old folk tale and beautifully presented in animated storybook form, narrated by top jazz singer of 2011 - Val Wiseman. Quercus Circus tells the poignant tale of the last tree in the land and it’s final dying wish for five chosen creatures, to carry each of the trees remaining sacred Golden Acorns to the far reaches of the planet and bury them safely under the ground. In doing so, saving our planet from a terrible fate. This application is the first of five worldwide instalments to Quercus Circus and follows the journey of Rufus the fox deep into the British countryside. Accompanying the animation are four short bewitching films; Monsieur Underhill, Your Glass Onion, A Queen Of Clubs, Rufus Le Renard, each of which contain intricate audio and visual clues that identify the three locations Rufus stops at, for inspiration and advice on where to hide the Golden Acorn. Finally leading to the fourth location where it is actually buried.
Treasure hunts throughout history have always been an important way of story telling in the form of folk-tales, myths or fantasy. King Arthur’s Quest for the Holy Grail and J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings are two of the most notable examples. Quercus Circus brings the idea to the real world, allowing children and adults alike to immerse themselves in an enlightening journey to find the hiding place of a beautiful piece of treasure they can go and dig up themselves out of the ground.
Commissioned by FREEMAN david exclusively, at a final cost of £10,000. The Golden Acorn was designed and made by leading London based jeweler - Regina Aradesian. Crafted in solid 18ct gold and enclosed in a beautiful silver orb which is exquisitely decorated with ‘Plique-a-Jour’ detailing. “Despite having to sell my home to raise the money to fund this project, the cash value of the treasure is the last thing Quercus Circus is about. The true value to anybody contemplating downloading the app, is in the journey and not the destination. Don’t get me wrong, the Golden Acorn would look beautiful sitting on your mantlepiece”.
Quercus Circus - The Tale of the Fox and the Golden Acorn, will be available to download from the Apple iTunes App store priced at £4.99 on Wednesday 29th February 2012. Compatible with the iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S and the 4th generation iPod Touch, iOS 3.2 onwards.
