Canadian Orthopedic crisis gets relief from Indian trade show in Toronto
The looming crisis in Orthopaedic care amongst Canadians sees a solution from Indian Orthopedic surgeons
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 2, 2009 --
The Canadian Orthopedic crisis saw some relief in the IMTD 2009, a trade show of Indian medical providers. One of the prominent exhibitors was the Madras Joint Replacement center.
There is no doubt that Canadian patients are facing a crisis in medical care and in particular orthopaedic surgery. The waiting lists for Orthopaedic surgery are one of the longest according to the Frazer institute and other agencies. The national median waiting time from referral to treatment by an orthopedic surgeon increased 65% between 1993 and 2003, from 19.5 weeks to 32.2 weeks.
To add to this there is no private treatment as it is banned by the government. Patients in dire straits from a joint problem are forced to seek Orthopaedic surgery in the neighbouring US where costs are very high and are likely to grow more expensive.
India made a bold pitch to help Canadian patients get rapid relief. IMTD 2009 was an expo held in Toronto Canada in the last week of November 2009. About 20 clinics and hospitals participated.
One of the key participants was the Madras Joint Replacement center. The center offers prompt treatment in Joint replacements. Hip, Shoulder & knee replacements are in great demand and the stall recorded many inquiries from Canadian patients.
Dr.Venkatachalam, chief orthopaedic surgeon was there in person at the booth and show cased some of the latest orthopaedic procedures like hip resurfacing, Minimal invasive knee, Journey knee, Patient matched instrumentation, shoulder resurfacing, cartilage surgery for arthritic joints etc.
Canadian patients were shown videos of the hospitals, patient stories and operative procedures.
A few patients were keen to travel abroad to Chennai, India for operations.
Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam is a UK trained Orthopaedic surgeon. He has pioneered several Orthopaedic procedures in India.
