(Westlake Village, CA) Condominium Connection, a Hawaii wholesaler for more than four decades, reports that Canadian travelers to the Islands are showing signs of shifting their buying habits, including going higher-end and booking earlier than normal due to the strength of the Canadian dollar and discounts throughout the Islands.
Canadians are traditionally drawn to Waikiki and the Kihei area of Maui, according to Joseph Fienberg, Condominium Connection president. He says, “In the past, Canadian travel agents focused on Waikiki and Kihei because of lower overall pricing in those destinations. Now, they are also inquiring about higher-end properties, which may have previously been out of their clients’ price ranges. For example, the growth in demand for Kaanapali is much stronger than just one year ago.”
Fienberg, notes, “Pricing in Kaanapali has been slower to recover than pricing in Kihei, so travelers can be on the beach in Kaanapali instead of across the street from the ocean in Kihei for essentially the same rate. We’re also seeing much more interest in upscale properties as well because of the strong Canadian dollar combined with a slower recovering U.S. economy.”
Fienberg points out that Condominium Connection is also experiencing a surge in earlier reservations from Canadians taking advantage of lower prices and greater buying power. “Canadians are booking farther out than normal even for the more moderate accommodations in order to stretch their budgets. The strength of the Canadian dollar against the U.S. dollar makes this a great time to book Hawaii.”
Condominium Connection, established in 1978, offers more than 200 condominiums and hotels throughout Hawaii and Mexico.
