Car Repairs and Accident Repair Not Recession Proof

Getting through a tough period of trade is the foremost priority, hoping to be around to move forward in more prosperous times.

There are certain businesses which are not affected in the same way however, such as debt collection, budget supermarkets and petrol stations. Another is a local car repairer, especially for light to moderate crash damage. Having a sizable dent in your car will mean it needs fixing, sometimes just so it can be roadworthy again.

One of Sheffield’s longest established accident and car repair bodyshops, John Bee Ltd, says things have been slightly different in this recent downturn: “We didn’t expect so much of a drop in business for the bigger accident repair jobs, but there was certainly some people deciding not to spend on repairs. I spoke to a number of people who had quotes who said they simply couldn’t afford it, and they would car share until things got better” says Anton Fantozzi, general manager.

Indeed John Bee Ltd, trading in Sheffield since way back to 1960, is positioned well to compare the current downturn against the last. “Back in the 1990’s it didn’t really change very much. We still kept all the same levels of trade for every type job, from scratches and small dents, right through to big accident damage repair” he went on to add.

It seems this time the nation has been a little more cautious in repairing their vehicles, although Mr Fantozzi reports things are now very much back to normal: “There was a 12 month period that seemed to be quite stale in terms of trade. But since Christmas the local car accident repair trade in Sheffield is extremely buoyant”.
