http://www.eriginalbooks.com/ This testimony criticizes socialism, totalitarism and dictatorships, and exposes how talent, innovation and initiative can’t prosper within the rigid Cuban system. On the other hand, the book also shows how the conscience of those who assisted to the process of that January 1st in 1959 as children, evolved from great expectations to total disillusion. It helps understanding why it takes more time for some and why honest and intelligent Cubans, even when facing slam dunk evidence, still remain there.
The main story of the book is the history of EICISOFT, a Cuban software company. EICISOFT was this “thing” with characteristics of a capitalist company that came to be by spontaneous generation, this is without being in any of those socialist five year plans or having any official sponsorship, but still, it ended up as a kind of national institute of robotics.
Those members that escape to exile, the Internet allowed them to meet virtually in a Yahoo group. They exchanged stories, this time without pretending or hiding involving details. For the first time, they knew how each other thought. In 2005 it came up this idea of writing down all these stories and testimonies into of a history of EICISOFT before they got lost in the volatility of human memory. It was Armando Rodriguez, who for being its director and willing, took the endeavor.
Paquito D’Rivera, Cuban exile, music performer and composer said about this book: "If I had to define Mandy (author’s nickname) in the fewest words, I would say that’s a guy with a hell of a writing skill, that’s it, plain and simple; the Cuban way. The way he is personally. No involved language, pompous words or unnecessary flowering; the story of his up and downs with EICISOFT is something not to be missed and is a good way for a newcomer to be initiated in the world of the Real Socialism, where what’s not prohibited is compulsory. Where trying to do things the right way may be considered “ideological diversionism”; it is something like the “bogeyman”, he who no one has ever seen, but yet, all kids fear him".
