(Seattle, WA) The joy and magic of the holiday season came alive with grandeur and elegance as hundreds of island residents celebrated 20 years of community supported theater with the 2009 Festival of Trees, a delightful holiday program and auction presented by the Community Arts Theaters Society (CATS) on Saturday night, December 5, 2009 at the San Juan Community Theater.

Friends and supporters of CATS gathered for a spirited reception followed by a delightful holiday program that featured a medley of happy holiday songs by the San Juan Rockettes, along with a selection of Patsy Cline songs by Kate Schuman and Keith Busha. The program concluded with colorful dance numbers by El Tapatio and El Carretero – Ballet Folklorico Monarca.

Merritt Olson, the theater’s executive director, welcomed donors to the auction, which included some incredible sculptures; hand made wood designs; elegant wine tasting tours; breathtaking paintings; and a unique art studio workshop and gourmet lunch.

Pat Nieman, the event’s chair, was grateful for the countless friends and residents who helped shape this spectacular event. “Tonight has been the highlight of an incredible year,” said Nieman. “All the credit goes to the volunteers who gave their treasured time and unlimited love and support to this years event. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.”

April Brown, the Northwest’s premier female auctioneer, marveled at this memorable evening. “I am so impressed with the amount of time and hard work that Pat and her team put in to make this the success that it was,” said April. “And I was so pleased that this year’s donations exceeded last year’s! This is a community that cares greatly about their wonderful theater.”
