FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Houston, Texas, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 1, 2012 -- The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) encourages scientific research into natural, antiviral sources. The organization would like to highlight the research that is being done in the world of alternative medicine, and while there may be danger that comes from diverting research from conventional treatments, the CBCD believes that hard research into the efficacy of some alternative, yet scientific, medical remedies is in order.

Not all things labeled “alternative” equates to “bad” or to “quackery.” This is especially true in herbalism where scientific research has shown real, medical promise.

Take, for instance, a study done in 2007 and published in the scientific journal, Antiviral Research. The name of the study is “Inhibitory effect of cinnamaldehyde, derived from Cinnamomi cortex, on the growth of influenza A/PR/8 virus in vitro and in vivo” and it was specifically conducted on Trans-cinnamaldehyde (CA), one of the principal constituents of essential oil derived from Cinnamomi cortex.

(In vitro [Latin: within glass] refers to studies in experimental biology that are conducted using components of an organism that have been isolated from their usual biological context in order to permit a more detailed or more convenient analysis than can be done with whole organisms. In vivo [Latin for "within the living"] is experimentation using a whole, living organism as opposed to a partial or dead organism.)

According to the study, “analyses showed that CA inhibited viral protein synthesis at the post-transcriptional level.” It also said that, “These findings might provide further support to the empirical indication of Cinnamomi cortex-containing Kampo medicines for acute respiratory infectious diseases.”

In other words, this extract from Cinnamon kept the flu virus from making more copies of itself in the experiments, and the researchers believe that this might be enough scientific evidence to support using it in certain medicines that fight the flu.

The CBCD is encouraged by this finding because we believe that scientifically based, natural, safe approaches to combating viruses are best.

Many viruses can infect the body and then begin storing dormant (sleeping) copies of themselves (imagine clone soldiers) somewhere in the body’s organs. When the virus copies are latent, or dormant (asleep) they do nothing and the person has no symptoms even though the virus lives within the person’s body for life.

In fact, the FDA says, “Some viruses…can enter a state known as latency in which the virus is not being replicated. In the latent state, the virus does not cause disease.”

However, many viruses can awaken and begin replicating themselves. Anyone who has had a fever blister or cold sore has experienced an awakening of the Herpes (HSV-1) virus within his or her system. The virus clones awaken and immediately begin attacking the body resulting in an Oral Herpes outbreak.

The same thing happens with many other viruses. They invade and then settle into the body in a dormant, sleeping state…just waiting to wake up and attack the human system.

That is why the CBCD believes that more research into scientifically based, natural methods of combating dormant viruses is so important. It makes sense that methods for killing dormant viruses, or boosting the immune system so that the human body eradicates viruses before they even become active, would be the best means of preventing diseases caused by viruses.

Some biotechnology companies such as polyDNA have stepped into this field of research and have come out with natural, antiviral remedies such as Gene-Eden-VIR that contains cinnamon as one of its ingredients.

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD, http://www.cbcd.net) is a research center recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization. The mission of the CBCD is to advance the research on the biology of chronic diseases, and to accelerate the discovery of treatments for these diseases.

The CBCD published the “Purple” book by Dr. Hanan Polansky. The book presents Dr. Polansky’s highly acclaimed scientific theory on the relationship between the DNA of latent (chronic) viruses and the onset of chronic diseases. Dr. Polansky’s book is available as a free download from the CBCD website.
