Celebrate the end of summer with a fun filled Labor Day weekend in New Hampshire

Waterville Valley Resort is staging an End of Summer Bash & Fireworks for families on Sunday, September 6 from noon to 9 p.m. The day includes free outdoor concerts, kid’s games and the annual charity Duck Race on Snow’s Brook. The owners of the fastest three ducks win a prize and all proceeds go to a local charity. The day ends with fireworks. Special travel packages for the Endless Summer include stays for Saturday and Sunday nights, plus a racing duck for each person at check-in. The M/S Mount Washington is hosting a Labor Day weekend full of cruising activities. On Friday, September 4, passengers are invited aboard the Parrot Head Party cruise from 7 to 10 p.m. This cruise departs from Weirs Beach and boards at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $47 adults and $37 children. On Saturday, September 5, the Labor Day Lobsterfest cruise, featuring fresh Maine lobsters, is from 6 to 9 p.m. The cruise departs from Weirs Beach and boards at 5:15 p.m. All tickets cost $49. On Sunday, September 6, the Labor Day Sunset cruise is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The cruise departs from Weirs Beach and boards at 4 p.m. Tickets are $43 adults, $23 children, and a family pass is available for $109 (2 adults and 2 children).

At the Currier Museum of Art visitors can view the many forms of turned wood created by master craftsmen, from the simplest bowl or baseball bat to intricate works of art. The exhibit “Turning Wood Into Art: The Jane and Arthur Mason Collection” is on view through September 27, 2009. This exhibition of 65 objects has been selected from one of the world’s foremost collections of contemporary lathe-turned wood. Through the turner’s imagination and mastery of technique they have created three dimensional canvasses for the exploration of the drama of wood’s color and pattern and the surprising intricacies of its grain.
