FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Beverly Hills, CA - September 23, 2010 - Cocaine use and Hollywood Celebrity may go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly, or Pancakes and Maple Syrup, but in this town, where face means fortune, celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Toby Mayer is urging these two beauties to put a halt to their recreational use of cocaine, before it ruins their….. looks!
“Drug abuse causes premature aging, but cocaine abuse leads to a perforated septum that ultimately becomes a collapsed nose,” stated Dr. Mayer of the Beverly Hills Institute of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. “As a Rhinoplasty expert I pride myself on my abilities to make a nose look perfectly natural but “cocaine nose” may never look normal again, even after multiple surgical attempts.”
According to Dr. Mayer a common complication of cocaine abuse is a perforated septum. In simple terms - a hole on the inside of the nose. While the drug might make the user feel temporary euphoria or a “high”, it is a potent vasoconstrictor (makes blood vessels contract) causing the inner nasal tissue to break down and disintegrate. The hole also no longer has tissue to absorb the drug so other areas of the nose become affected and, as enough support is destroyed, the nose can ultimately collapse. The nose is designed for breathing function and to protect the lungs by humidifying the air. With cocaine use the lining of the nose is destroyed and these important functions do not take place. Ultimately the cartilage that forms the bridge of the nose has no support and collapses leaving an unattractive, caved-in appearance and a nose without proper function.
“Both Paris and Lindsay are beautiful young women and their face is their fortune,” commented Dr. Mayer. “All the money in the world cannot buy them what they have now and unless they “stop” the abuse, we can only guess from past patients what they will look like ten years from now.”
Dr. Toby Mayer is co-director of The Beverly Hills Institute of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery with Richard G. Fleming, M.D. He is a Clinical Professor and immediate past Chairman of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. They also serve on the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He is dual board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Visit his Web site at www.bevhills.com.
