Central PA Friends of Jazz to celebrate "Jazz on the Green" at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course during its 31st Annual Jazz Festival, June 17th-19th
Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz (CPFJ) announced that its 31st Annual Jazz Festival will be held June 17th - 19th in Harrisburg, PA. This year’s theme: Jazz on the Green.

Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz (CPFJ) announced that its 31st Annual Jazz Festival will be held June 17th - 19th in Harrisburg, PA. This year’s theme, Jazz on the Green, is fitting because the festival’s Saturday session will be held at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course located at 650 S. Harrisburg Street in Harrisburg.
CPFJ is one of the nation’s oldest non-profit jazz organizations. Now in its 31st year, the festival will begin on Friday, June 17th with the traditional annual Jazz Walk which features jazz gigs at various downtown and midtown venues, including: Blue Front Lounge, Carley’s Ristorante &Piano Bar; Garden Fresh Market & Deli; Hilton Harrisburg Bar & Patio; Hodge Podgery, Mantis Collective Gallery; Suba @ Mangia Qui and more.
The showcase event of the JazzWalk will be an appearance by Jonathan Ragonese and poet Iya Isoke at the Maennerchor, 221 North Street, Harrisburg. Performing with Jonathan with be New Yorkers Alex LoRe on alto sax and Alex Cohen on drums. Doors open at 8pm and tickets can be purchased at $10 at the door.
On Saturday, June 18th, an impressive lineup begins at 1pm at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course and includes the legendary Philadelphia-based saxophonists Bootsie Barnes and Larry McKenna. The duo is billed together as Triumphant Tenor Men Gone Wild! and will close Saturday’s show as part of an organ jam session. Dauphin Highlands Golf Course is located at 650 S. Harrisburg Street, Harrisburg.
Other artists performing on Saturday include Brazilian jazz vocalist Kenia and her Quartet; Lancaster’s Amy Banks and her Quartet; CPFJ’s Jazz Camp Kids; and CPFJ’s Youth All-Star Band under the direction of Ron Waters.
Sunday’s activities include a Father’s Day Brunch at the Hilton’s Raspberries Lounge with Steve Rudolph on solo piano at 11am (for diners only).
The final performance of this year’s festival takes place Sunday night at the Gallery at the Appalachian Brewery Company at 50 N. Cameron Street in Harrisburg where Cuban vocal legend Xiomara Laugart will appear with her son and pianist Axel Tosca Laugart. Opening the evening will be Jonathan Ragonese with Alex LoRe, Alex Cohen and more.
This final evening show is a co-presentation of Greenbelt Events and CPFJ. Tickets are $15 advance/$18 the day of the show. Doors open at 6:30pm. To purchase tickets online, log onto http://greenbeltevents.com/ and look for Xiomara tickets.
