Chandler Chase receives the JaMikeal Eison MVP Award

Charlotte, NC: The Beatties Ford Youth Academic and Athletic Association presented Chandler Chase with the first ever JaMikeal Eison MVP Awards on July 1, 2010. JaMikeal Eison, former Beatties Ford Saint, died suddenly of natural causes on September 22, 2009. “It was only fitting that we names the MVP trophy after mike-Mike” says Quincey Peek, head coach of the BF Saints 16u team. “He was a leader on and off the field.”

Chandler Chase is a rising junior at Hopewell High where he has a 3.4 gpa and plays quarterback for the football team.

Best Offensive Lineman; Bryce Gardner, Vance High
Best Defensive lineman: Spencer Mason, Hopewell High
Best Wide receiver: Marcus Holmes, West Charlotte High
Best linebacker: Anthony McCall, Hopewell High
Best all around Defensive Player: Qamar Lane, Hopewell High
Rookie of the year and Best Running Back: Joshua Brewington, Hopewell High

The spring football team was made up of to 22 at-risk males ages 14-17. These players, who showed the initiative to start the team, live in west and north Charlotte and 90% of them live in single income households. The goal was to develop them physically, we also emphasize the importance of doing well in school, planning to go to college and developing leadership skills to carry them through their lives. The success showed in the classroom 80% of the team is academically eligible to play in high school this fall.
