of McDonald Observatory
Fort Worth, Texas ( Nov. 13, 2009) – David Chappell, attorney with Cantey Hanger LLP in Fort Worth, has been elected Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the McDonald Observatory.
Chappell will be Chairman for two years.
The McDonald Observatory campus is a component of The University of Texas at Austin’s College of Natural Science located in the Davis Mountains, 450 miles west of Austin. The facility is equipped with multiple observatories and a wide range of instrumentation for imaging and spectroscopy in the optical and infrared, and operates the Hobby-Eberly 9 meter telescope, the fourth largest in the world.
It is engaged in pioneering work on the No. 1 issue in science, defining the nature of "Dark Energy", which is an unknown force causing the increasing acceleration of the expansion of the universe.
