FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) September 23, 2010 --
ChemistDirect.co.uk is set to fight back against verrucas by offering parents with young children a range of products to treat the common ailment which can be easily picked up in the school changing rooms or local swimming pool.
Verrucas also known as a plantar wart are one of 10 different types of wart which occur on the soles of your feet, although they can also appear on the heels and toes.
Verrucas are small, benign skin-coloured rough lumps which often have a black dot in the centre – the wart’s blood supply. This is surrounded by a hard white area, the skin of the wart. They don’t stick up from the surface of the skin; instead the weight of your body pushing down on them causes them to grow back into your skin, which can be painful.
Warts are very common in children and teenagers and most people experience warts at some time during their life, usually before the age of 20.
Walking bare footed in public areas or having direct contact with moist walking surfaces in communal shower and/or changing facilities is the most common way of catching verrucas. In schools, children typically catch them after P.E. or swimming lessons.
Although verrucas look unattractive, they are typically harmless and often clear up without treatment, although treatment can help to get rid of them more quickly.
That said verrucas are very contagious, because the skin cells in them release thousands of viruses, which can be passed on by close skin-to-skin contact, and indirectly through objects such as towels. It should be noted though that it can take weeks, or even months, for warts and verrucas to appear after you have caught the infection.
If your child has warts or verrucas they should still go swimming as normal, but verrucas should be covered with waterproof plasters. Some people prefer to wear special aqua guard socks which you can buy from the Chemist Direct website here.
Chemist Direct stock a wide range of products to help treat verrucas, including the Scholl Seal And Heal Verruca Removal Gel, a highly effective and painless treatment for verrucas available for £3.19 (RRP: £6.99). Also available is the Bazuka Gel, an effective and painless way to treat and remove verrucas, warts, corns and calluses for £4.09 (RRP £5.45). The Salatac Gel is another useful product which contains two active ingredients: salicylic acid (12% w/w) and lactic acid (4% w/w). These ingredients work together to break down and remove warts, verrucas, corns and calluses and is available for £4.81 (RRP £4.89). You can browse the full range of products available here.
