FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) September 9, 2010 -- ChemistDirect.co.uk is aiming combat the dreaded hangover with a range of products design to help people rehydrate themselves after consuming large amounts of alcohol.

People in the UK are drinking less alcohol for the first time in 60 years according to new figures. The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), who represent the brewing and pub sector, said that the data revealed a 6% fall in the amount of alcohol consumed in 2009. The fall, which is the fourth annual drop in five years, is the largest since 1948 according to the BBPA..

Beer remains the UK’s favourite drink accounting for 60% of total sales in pubs, hotels and restaurants with wine coming in second with 13%.

The news comes after the Office for National Statistics revealed that 39% of men and 31% of women regularly drink more than experts say is good for them.

Excessive drinking can seriously damage your long term health. Liver problems, reduced fertility, high blood pressure, increased risk of various cancers and the risk of a heart attack are just some of the numerous harmful effects that can develop from regularly drinking above the recommended level.

Dehydration and hangovers are two of the most common instant effects triggered from drinking offer the recommended limit. The most commonly reported characteristics of a hangover include nausea, headaches, diarrhea and thirst. Dehydration, which is defined as an excessive loss of bodily fluid, is one the most common causes of hangovers. It is triggered by alcohol's ability to inhibit the release of anti-diuretic hormone. The hormone helps to retain water in the body by stopping the kidneys from producing urine.

ChemistDirect.co.uk offer a wide range of products available to help treat a hangover of dehydration. If you find yourself with a hangover the one of the best things to take is Resolve Extra (£2.29). Resolve Extra is an all-in one remedy to treat the symptoms of headache and upset stomach associated with over-indulgence and hangovers. Alternatively Alka Seltzer tablets are an antacid and pain relief medicine particularly useful to give fast and effective relief to headaches and upset stomachs, which are associated with the over indulgence of food and drink. Drinking water is also highly recommended.

Guidelines

The recommended daily allowances advised by the NHS are:
Men should not regularly drink more than 3-4 units a day.
Women should not regularly drink more than 2-3 units a day.
NB: 'Regularly' means drinking these amounts every day or most days of the week.
Units are a standard way to indicate the alcohol content of any given drink. The NHS sets out the following guidelines:
• Pint of 4% lager: 2.3 units
• 175ml glass of 13% wine: 2.3 units
• 25ml glass of 40% single spirit and mixer: 1 unit
